BIG TURNOUT FOR MELROSE PARK COMMUNITIES GOLF DAY REPORTS PAYCE DIRECTOR, DOMINIC SULLIVAN

PAYCE Director, Dominic Sullivan said over 120 community-minded golfers contested the Melrose Park Community Cup at Ryde Parramatta Golf Club last week, helping to raise more than $78,000 on the day for six local community groups.

"The annual fundraiser's organising committee included representatives from all six participating groups – Melrose Park Public School P&C, St Michaels Meadowbank Catholic School, Touched by Olivia Foundation, Ermington United Sport & Recreation Club, Riverside Community Church and West Ryde Rovers," Mr. Sullivan said.

"The money collected from the golf day activities and evening dinner this year exceeded last year's total when $67,000 was raised at the inaugural event.

Mr Sullivan thanked the organising committee members for giving their time to ensure the day went smoothly.

"An event of this nature needs a lot of input from the various groups and their efforts were greatly appreciated by everyone who joined us on the course and at the dinner," Dominic offered.

A Great Sense of Community Spirit in the District – Dominic Sullivan

"Each group represents a worthy cause and PAYCE was pleased to host the day and we look forward to providing ongoing support into the future.

"There is a great sense of community spirit in the district and we will assist where we can to facilitate these groups' current activities and new initiatives," Mr Sullivan added.

"The Cup day was both rewarding and a lot of fun. Congratulations to the team supporting West Ryde Rovers on their well-deserved win," Dominic Sullivan continued.

Development Programs That Focus on the Young Ones - David Cooper

David Cooper from West Ryde Rovers said the introduction of the Melrose Park Community Cup had aided many small community groups desperately in need of funds.

"I know we will put our share to good use, especially in the development programs that focus on the young ones in our club.

"I am sure I speak for all the community groups in thanking PAYCE for their commitment and first-class organisation of the event," he said.

Local Clubs Value the Support - Joe Moses

President of Ermington United Sport & Recreation Club, Joe Moses said the club valued the generous support from PAYCE with the funds donated ensuring longevity for the club.

"The funds will go towards supporting our small army of volunteers, assist in promoting junior involvement and help provide coaching and training equipment," he said.

Donation to be Put Towards Much-Needed Technology Resources - Danielle Davis

Danielle Davis from Melrose Park Public School P &C said PAYCE was a wonderful supporter of the school and its activities.

"We were very grateful last year to receive a benefit from the community golf day that allowed us to fund learning support programs and some new playground equipment.

"This year we plan to put the donation towards much-needed technology resources, including a new interactive whiteboard," she said.

Funds Raised Distributed to Six Worthy Community Groups – Dominic Sullivan

Mr Sullivan said the fundraising and awards dinner in the evening was attended by over 250 guests, including representatives of state and local governments.

"Parramatta Lord Mayor, Andrew Wilson presented trophies and Parramatta MP, Geoff Lee handed over cheques to the Melrose Park Community Cup committee to distribute to the six community groups," Dominic Sullivan said.

"Dinner guests were entertained by an inspiring speech from Paralympian gold medallist, Louise Sauvage, covering her career from age eight when she decided to be a wheelchair athlete, up to her career highlight representing Australia at the Sydney Olympics where she won gold in the 800 metres.

"Equally entertaining was Mick Colliss who related his hilarious journey from failed attempts to represent Australia in numerous major sports to finally overcome adversity at 42 and represent his country at the world championships of Sudoko in India," Dominic Sullivan finished.
