The Melrose Park Tropfest cash winner, Karen Brown, visited Tropfest for the first time and took home a $10,000 prize, delighting PAYCE Director Dominic Sullivan.

Karen Brown has always wanted to attend Tropfest and this year she not only enjoyed the best short films in the land but walked away with $10,000 in cash.

"I have been planning to go for years, but this time I said I am actually going to get there," she said.

After making her way to Parramatta Park she filled out the entry form for the Melrose Park by Payce competition.

"I have always been interested in film and theatre," she said.

She said that it was a great night and the films were of a high standard, particularly from the young film-makers.

Karen said she was shocked when she got the call about the prize.

"This is the first time I have one a major prize – I was just so excited," she said.

Melrose Park is a major urban renewal project located at the gateway to Greater Parramatta.

Developed by PAYCE and Sekisui House Australia, Melrose Park will be a new suburb comprising new homes, jobs, exciting retail spaces, parks and open spaces.

Melrose Park will be transformed into a smart, social and creative place to live, work and play.

Karen, from Liverpool in Sydney's west, said she was planning to go on a luxury cruise after winning the $10,000.

"A friend of mine is going on a ocean cruise and asked if I wanted to come along and I thought why not."

PAYCE Director Dominic Sullivan said he was delighted that such a worthy winner had won the prize.

"Karen is a great person and we hope she has a great time on the cruise," Dominic Sullivan said.

Karen reckons she will be a regular at Tropfest after this year's lucky night.
