The initiative of White Ribbon Day is to encourage men to participate as a symbol of their opposition to men's violence against women. As such, the day commenced with men and the community taking an oath to end violence against women.

"We hope that today we have brought awareness amongst all men in the community and can't wait to see many more participate in the future," said Bilal El- Hayek, member for Canterbury Council.
